it's bittersweet. i mean, he's still only 18 months old, but he's a BIG 18 months.
so tonight i decided, what the heck, i'll bit him up. he's got a nice snaffle bridle with slobber straps and mecate reins. i wanted to see how it looked on him and heaven knows his head's big enough.
he didn't even flinch. played with the bit a little, got bored with that, so he tried to chew the mecate... just kinda stood there.
so my buddy and i decided why not throw a saddle on him? we stuck hers on him 'cause it's lighter than my anvil of a trail saddle. he didn't move a muscle. didn't buck, didn't snort... turned around to sniff it, then ignored it. i took him out, led him around, trotted him on the line... i didn't tighten the cinch super tight, but it was snug. he saddles up better than my 24 y/o mare... you could have sworn he'd done it a million times, but no, it's his first! i'm so proud of my shnuggly boy!
so i hope to actually sit on his back by december. i need to call the lady i bought him from and ask her what age she first sat on his brother. she rode his big brother in a parade at 2, and he was just perfect. the colts out of this stud have such brains. mellow, but not lazy. and smart too. easy to train, and great looking! not to mention BIG.
so i took some pics. it was nighttime, so they're flash snapshots... i'm going to stick them in my scraps area if any of you want to check them out.
